The Five Filters in Your Automobile

Knowing what filters you have in your car, truck, or utility vehicle is important because you need to know when to change them. Many vehicles are equipped with five filters, some with four, and some with three. Some automobiles do not come with a cabin air filter or transmission filter. Auto Solutions advises that you check your owner’s manual to confirm whether your vehicle has these filters in it. Either way, we are going to discuss the five automotive filters below and their general recommended changing schedules. This will help you make sure you always have clean filters in your automobile.

1. Air

Your automobile definitely has an air filter in the engine. This filter should be changed every 12,000 miles. If you are a low-mileage driver, change the air filter once a year. This filter cleans the air that flows into the engine to make certain it is pure when it is introduced into the combustion chamber.

2. Cabin

If your automobile has a cabin air filter, the general recommendation is to change it every 30,000 miles. This can depend on the filter type and what your vehicle manufacturer suggests, however, so double check your owner’s manual. The cabin air filter purifies the air that flows into the vehicle’s cabin.

3. Fuel

Your car, truck, or utility vehicle definitely has a fuel filter that is designed to remove all contaminants out of the diesel fuel or gasoline before it is moved into the combustion chamber. This filter needs to be changed every 30,000 miles or two years. It’s crucial that you have clean fuel in the chamber.

4. Oil

Your car, truck, or utility vehicle also has an oil filter. This filter removes all dirt and contaminants that the oil picks up as it circulates through the engine. It does this so that you have clean motor oil ready to go once it’s time to recirculate through the engine. The oil filter is changed during an oil change.

5. Transmission

Finally, check your owner’s manual to see if your vehicle is equipped with the transmission filter. If it is, it’s likely recommended that it be changed every 30,000 miles. As with the oil filter, the transmission filter gets changed when the transmission fluid gets changed.
