When the exhaust manifold leaks, it causes a series of problems that we will list below. If you are experiencing any of these things while driving, head straight to our shop for the proper repair.

Sluggish Performance

When the exhaust manifold leaks, it releases exhaust gases into the engine. Unfortunately, these gases take up space and interfere with the combustion production in the combustion chamber. Consequently, your engine will start to perform poorly. You will also notice problems when you try to accelerate.

Reduced Fuel Efficiency

Your automobile cannot get its best fuel mileage if the engine is not running efficiently. As such, the cracked exhaust manifold is going to indirectly reduce your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. This is not a good thing because you will end up spending more money on gasoline or diesel fuel, which can be expensive.

Strange Start-Up Noises

If you are concerned that you may have a cracked exhaust manifold, listen carefully in silence as you start up your automobile. You will hear hissing or tapping noises coming from the manifold if the exhaust is leaking out of it. These noises may continue while you drive your automobile.

Strong Plastic Odors

Another thing you will detect is strong plastic odors coming from the engine. Unfortunately, when the exhaust leaks out of the cracked manifold, it is hot enough to overheat and melt plastic parts. It’s also hot enough to melt rubber parts. Finally, it is hot enough to overheat your engine while you drive.

Strong Exhaust Odors

As if smelling hot plastic was not bad enough, you may also smell exhaust inside your automobile. It is so important to avoid driving your vehicle if the exhaust is being blown from the engine into the cabin. You could become seriously ill if you inhale too much of the exhaust. Have your vehicle towed to our shop.

Check Engine Warning

Finally, the engine control unit will receive error codes from various system sensors as your engine struggles to run when it is filled with exhaust. As such, the unit will turn on the check engine light and leave it on. Once you replace the leaking exhaust manifold, the check engine light will turn off.
